Current Projects

Kwinana Bulk Terminal Clinker Import Circuit

Fremantle, Western Australia

In a Western Australian first, COVA has inflated a 40-metre-high cement clinker dome at the Kwinana Bulk Terminal in the Outer Harbour -the first time such a structure has been installed in Western Australia.

Due for completion in late 2024, the new clinker circuit project consists of the 40-metre-high storage dome and a covered conveyor network which will link directly to the adjacent Cockburn Cement Ltd plant and also deliver efficiency benefits to the State’s other major clinker importer, BGC. It took 24 hours to inflate the giant white dome, which is the second of its type in Australia and is integral to Fremantle Ports' new import circuit facility which will streamline the importation of clinker - the principal element in the manufacture of cement.

The storage dome is able to hold an entire shipment of clinker - around 40,000 tonnes - with the project replacing existing aged cargo-handling assets with new facilities capable of handling future trade growth. With a hugely reduced footprint in lieu of traditional shed storage, this helps future proof the site for expansion to accommodate growth in the years to come.

Burnie Minerals Export Facility Shiploader Replacement

Burnie, Tasmania

With the current shiploader nearing the end of its economic life, the Australian Federal Government and the Tasmanian State Government have worked together to progress its replacement. The project also includes the replacement of the reclaim conveyors within the concentrates shed as well as the wharf galleries.

The new shiploader and system will result in the doubling of the average hourly load rate and greatly improve best-practice environmental and safety performance. Scheduled for completion mid-2024, COVA are proud to play a key part in Tasmania’s mining sector.

Dulverton Regional Organics Facility

Dulverton, Northern Tasmania

As the first 100% in-vessel processing facility in Australia, open windrowing is no longer necessary for our client in a location that has an average of 900mm rainfall annually and low temperatures for large parts of the year.

This 50,000 tonnes per annum composting facility is supported by both state and federal governments and will divert significant quantities of waste away from landfill. Producing a viable, commercial product as its output, this facility is changing the way Tasmania and indeed Australia handles FOGO (food organics, green organics).
