Tasmanian Civil and Administration Tribunals
Project scope
COVA was the original building services consultant for the greenfield $10m AUD, 3,500-square-metre office building, purpose built for the Department of Veterans' Affairs and Centrelink.
Most recently, COVA was engaged for a $5m AUD project to separate the Centrelink tenancy and deliver a new specialist fitout for the Tasmanian State Government tribunals while Centrelink continued to occupy the reduced floorplate. COVA was then engaged directly by the Department of Justice for audio-visual design, including a complete Crestron and Microsoft Teams system for video and teleconferencing, room booking, lighting and HVAC control.
Until this project, Tasmania was the only state without an amalgamated tribunal justice system, with services spread across the greater Hobart region. The amalgamation created the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TasCAT), whose 2,000-square-metre fitout comprises 19 hearing rooms, mediation rooms, offices, breakout spaces and support spaces for staff and the public, which are especially important for mental health cases.
