Project scope
The site in Chigwell sits prominently beside a busy roundabout, bordered by streets on three sides in a predominantly suburban neighbourhood of single-family homes.
The brief called for a new social housing development to replace the two-storey complex previously on the site, maximising yield while delivering a balanced mix of one and two-bedroom apartments.
The completed design delivers twelve one-bedroom apartments across two levels and six two-bedroom apartments above a concealed carpark, arranged in three forms connected by an east-west circulation spine radiating around a central outdoor communal space, with careful attention to reducing the building's perceived scale.
COVA was engaged to deliver the electrical services.
