Ground was broken for the Tacloban City Philippines Temple on Saturday 18 January 2025, with Elder Michael B. Strong, Second Counsellor in the Philippines Area Presidency, presiding. Local government officials and interfaith leaders joined Church members from across Leyte for the ceremony, with the Tacloban Philippines Stake Choir singing.

COVA’s involvement began before the project was committed, with real estate due diligence on the greenfield site at Barangay Utap-Caibaan. With the temple now in construction, our team provides quantity surveying and project management on the owner’s side through to completion. Read more on the Tacloban City Temple project page.

The temple, announced in October 2021, will be a two-storey building of approximately 21,407 square feet on a 2.8-hectare (6.99-acre) site on the Tacloban Bypass Road. Elder Strong noted that the ceremony fell 56 years to the day after the first baptism in Tacloban, and in the dedicatory prayer asked that those in the temple district be given greater capacity “to act with charity, compassion, patience and kindness towards our neighbours and to go about doing good.”
