On 18th October, Leila represented COVA Philippines and spoke at the QS Summit in Manila hosted by Philippines Institute of Certified Quantity Surveyors (PICQS) Inc. The event brought together industry professionals and thought leaders to discuss the evolving role of Quantity Surveyors (QS) across the ASEAN region.
During the summit, Leila shared key insights on the future of the QS profession. The central message was clear, which is that the role of Quantity Surveyors must evolve from that of a traditional ‘measurer’ to a strategic commercial leader. To future-proof the profession, QS practitioners must lead with integrity, uphold high ethical standards, and enforce zero tolerance for unethical practices.
The presentation also highlighted the importance of sustainability and climate risk management in project costing. It emphasised the need for an education system that nurtures digitally proficient commercial leaders, blending technical engineering knowledge with deep contract law and procurement expertise.
This evolution, driven by diversity and empowered by the next generation of leaders, will position Quantity Surveyors as the Client’s ‘guardian of value’ championing responsible, innovative and sustainable project outcomes across the region.
