Project scope

Gate B105A, Penrhyn Rd, Botany NSW 2019

As control system delivery lead agent for all yard infrastructure over three years, COVA played a significant role in all client-side management activities, electrical design from HV to ELV, and also demonstrated safety compliance throughout the project lifecycle. This was achieved by referencing and meeting relevant clauses of safety standards AS4024, AS61508 and AS60261 throughout the assessment, design, implementation and testing phases of the project. To reduce maintenance and support costs a centralised system was designed to require only a single PLC and attention was paid to processing speeds in order to meet response time requirements of each of the functional safety elements of the system. Substantial complexities were also introduced by the systems with which the PLC system needed to communicate, including systems from MSIC card readers in the field to Yardcom comprising part of the RTCS system which interfaced with the work order systems and AutoStrads. The system was delivered to Patrick as fully validated package and included an ongoing, 24/7 service contract which allowed Patrick to leverage COVA’s knowledge of risk assessments and safety in the early requirement setting phase, as well as COVA’s capability to design, develop and successfully implement the required solution. This model could only have been achieved through the involvement of COVA in the project as consultant, designer, developer and test engineer.
